Adult diapers are used for those who have become incontinent; they have lost the ability to control their bladder or their bowel movements. Often, it is the elderly who require such products, but sometimes young adults with medical problems or disabilities need them as well. Sometimes pregnant women need to use adult diapers because of how the baby is laying, they can’t tell if they need to urinate or not.

Some careers require people to wear adult diapers. Sea divers who will be under water for long lengths of time are required to wear them. Astronauts must wear them during take off and landings. Some guards who can’t leave their posts find adult diapers a relieve. This is referred to as the watchman’s urinal. Death row inmates have the option of wearing a diaper during their execution. Some people simply wear them because they refuse to use public restrooms.

The adult diaper industry has grown extensively over the past few decades. As people are living a longer life, more and more are having problems with incontinent. Adult diapers can be disposable or cloth just like baby diapers. Some people have an allergic reaction to the materials of disposable diapers, so they choose cloth for comfort. Disposal diapers are sold 10 times more for adults than cloth diapers. About 18 million disposable diapers for adults are sold every year in the United States.  On average, an adult will soil 7 diapers per day.
